  1. You Can Be Who You Want To Be

  2. Be All That You Can Be

When you are choosing a university to enrol, you need to understand your gifts and talents, look at the job market, and consider your budget.

Don't forget that you have lots of options. Don't settle for the second best. Go through all your options. If you are unsure of the kinds of options that you have, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I will be happy to show you.

Then, you need to be positive and persevere so that you will achieve your long term goal and fulfill your full potential.

Talk to your family about it. They are your greatest supporters.

Lay out your plans before them. Be flexible to adjust your plans according your family's suggestions.

Remember, you are made for great things! Give yourself time and put in effort until you reach your goal.

  3. Communicate Your Plan

Have you thought about your future? Have you determined what you will be ten years down the road? Have you developed a plan  about how you would go to university?

You are totally responsible for your own future and you should plan early for it.

After you have planned for yourself, you will need to communicate your plan to your family. Sometimes young people assume that since their parents have supplied their needs for the last many years, they will also continue to support them through any university that they may want to go.

Please understand that university fees are hefty. Different courses will also cost differently. There are vastly different price tags for studying different courses and at different places.

Therefore, once you have some ideas of the particular course you would like to study and in which country, you need to talk to your parents about it.

Your parents would probably  have to take several years to prepare for your tertiary education. When you see their  sacrifices for you, you will know how much they love and care for you.

Then, let your family critique your plan. Your father may tell you that he will never be able to prepare this amount of money for you. You brother may tell you that you are not suited to do the course that you chose.

I suggest that at this juncture, you should take a deep breath. Remember that this is a family project. Formulate a plan to explain your point. Be very patient in your explanation.

You must also be willing to negotiate and compromise.

While you want to go to the best university, you must also understand that learning is a life-long process. You just need to study the best you can in your area of interest for the next few years and continue to study well for the many years to come.

My youngest daughter is very interested in art. She makes beautiful art and craft items for sale since she was a small girl. When she was choosing a course in the university, she decided that she needed to choose a course that can give her a good match with the current job market. So she chose computer science as her major and art as her minor. Today, she is developing healthcare programs for hospitals all over the world. At the same time, she could still do art in her spare time.

How about you? To be open to negotiation and compromise is always a win-win situation for any family. If you need help in this area, please do not hesitate to contact us.
