John Foo
John (not his real name) is a quiet and introvert type of person. He comes from a family of artistic and musical people.
I (Dr Susan Seow) received a call from John's parents one day saying that although he is coming to 17 years old, John does not know what he wants for his future.
I met John for a drink one day and discovered that he is a shy person who is good at the piano. He also said that he liked to work with children.
I asked John to consider volunteering his services in the various children' s program in church or other preschool centres in town. That way, he will know for sure whether he really wants to work with children.
I also suggested to John some possible training programs that he could attend in case he has made up his mind to major in the field of education.
It is still too early to see the results of John's subsequent training and career. Perhaps a few years down the road, John could be running a highly successful pre-school that majors in creative music for children? We need to think out of the box when choosing a suitable career.
