Frequently Asked Questions
Question: I'll be finishing my high school in about 3 months' time. The trouble is I don't know what I want to do next. Can you help me with some advice? I'm not active in co-curriculum in school but I like playing the guitar. I also get along well with preschool children.
Answer:
Let us begin by visualizing a scenario of you working with music and children. How would you like to work with children?
Do you like to teach children music?
Do you like to entertain them with music?
Of course you can also teach children using music.
So the first thing you need to do is to find something that you want to do 10 years down the road, something that you are excited and passionate to do.
Next, you need to try it out. Visualizing is not good enough because reality may not be what you think.
Is there a children’s program or education centre that you can volunteer your services? You may have to try a few times to be sure of your interest and your passion.
When you are sure of what you would like to do 10 years down the road, then you can look at the job market.
Who will employ you to do the things that you like to do? Is there a need in the job market for a person like you?
Here you will need to research or to ask for help to help you understand the job market. You can also contact Edugate. We will help you go through the steps above to identify your gifts, talents and passion. We will also help you to look at the job market needs.
Question: I'm now in High School Senior class. I want to start looking for a suitable college or university to go to. So far, two local private colleges have come to my school to give talks. What shall I do now? I find it hard to talk to my parents about my future plans.
Answer:
Have you thought about what you would like to do 10 years down the road? This is the first step that you need to think about. It will be a great disaster for you to spend your family’s resources to do a course that you have no interest in. Doing a course or educational program is a preparation or training for your future.
If you have any problem identifying your interests, please contact Edugate. We will be happy to help you clarify your gifts, talents and your interests.
Besides identifying your gifts, talents and interests, you need to look at the job market. Which industry will be the best fit for your talents? After you have identified your future station, you can consider attending a suitable program to prepare for it.
However, studying in a private college may require some funding. You need to get the support of your family to work out the budget that you need. Studying in a private college in Malaysia may need RM50,000. But if you want to study in a twinning program, you may need to prepare RM150,000 for a three/ four year program in Malaysia. If you intend to do your final year/s in an American or Canadian college, you may need more perhaps up to RM300,000 (or USD$100,000). A lot depends on the type of course you are following.
You need to work within a budget that your family is comfortable to provide. Talk to your parents nicely and in a positive way. Don’t demand something that your parents are unable or uncomfortable to provide. There are many options for your further education. Talk to Edugate, and we will be happy to help you select a course that fits your need and your budget.
